We left on Friday 13 May just before 17h and managed to get to St. André around 19h15 which was good time given that there was traffic into Bellegarde. Grandma and Grampa have not been in almost 4 years. When we arrived J was eager to see the work that the decorator had done but au had to deal with fridge defrosting as perhaps I had pulled the plug out last time we left. Once that sorted so could appreciate the wallpaper tat had been put up on the mezzanine. I think it looks great. He also touched up where the chimney leaked and we had mould - you cannot see where he repainted . Also the new wall in A’s room is a big success. Topped with the fact that the boiler is working again it was overall a good discovery. We ate outside as the weather has been very hot.
Saturday morning was already sunny and warm and I bumped into M. G when I went to the baker. We ate outside and then did some gardening and me, A and grandma then did a tip run followed by a trip to Super U. It was very hot. We chilled in the heat and then the girls went to La Guiche pool to cool down. They had opened the sides so we could sit in the sun. In the evening we went Chapaize and tried the restaurant Le Saint Martin. It was nice to sit outside. They don’t do a menu just à la carte which is limited - 3 or 4 choices for each course. Between us we tried the chicken aspic - very good, soft egg with asparagus and olive tapenade- very good and one called carottes, carottes, carottes which as you can guess was carrots in different ways. Then four people had lamb - grilled and in a boulette with delicious taboulé and J had poulpe with squid ink sauce and haricots blancs which was very very good. We sampled all the deserts- a kind of modern cheesecake then a chocolate and peanut one and I had white chocolate mousse with strawberries and then white chocolate cornflake crisps. It was a very good meal - we will come again. Afterwards we walked round the church and marvelled at the roses and irises in bloom. The photo of the badger is what was in the resto toilet which took me by surprise!
Sunday morning was again warm and sunny and I got some stuff from the bakers and we ate outside. We did some light gardening - there is an iris I have never seen before and I did not plant it as it is against the chaufferie and had toppled over. It’s a beautiful apricot colour. We sewed some wildflowers near the wall so we will see if they work in a few weeks. It was very very hot. We had lunch and then left shortly after.
