Jeune Genevois

Since the second Thursday in September is a day off in Geneva and A’s school also closes on the Friday we decided to take the Friday off too and come to the house. We brought A’s friend Ruth. We hit a traffic jam just around Nantua as they put the motorway down to one lane so we lost almost an hour stop starting. We arrived just before 13h and all was fine as first J’s Dad had passed through for a night early Aug and last week Fiona’s sister and husband came. Unfortunately they caught covid so were pretty much house bound. We unpacked and had a bite to eat. The girls de-spidered A’s bedroom and rearranged it following the plaster boarding. We all then went to Salornay. We had wanted to try the Salon de thé as they have good cakes apparently but it was exceptionally shut. So we went to the baker and picked up some equally delicious pastries and ate them on a bench.

We came home and did some relaxing and reading. J and I went for a late afternoon walk. The weather was sunny and warm for September but last night they had big thunder storms with rain and hail. We all ate dinner and then everyone chilled out. We heard that the Queen passed away earlier in the day - she was a dedicated monarch who took her duty very seriously and for that I respect her - now we have King Charles III.

Friday started a bit overcast and I went to the baker. The girls we are awake quite early. We all went into Cluny and J has his hair cut by his favourite hairdresser and then we wandered around a bit. There are actually some really nice shops on Cluny including a new bookshop with a cafe owned by the footballer Griezeman’s sister. It’s been really stylishly fitted out and I want to have a drink there soon. We walked to La Pain sur la Table and sat outside although it was slightly fresh with a drop or two. We shared a feta and watermelon salad which A declared was not as good as hers. Then the girls had the veggie option of poached egg on pumpkin spaghetti with salad and a tofu and soya sauce. J had the seiche risotto and I had saucisson rougail. Then the three of them had the ever delicious chocolate cake with ice cream.
In the afternoon we just chilled round the house. We had rain late pm and in the night.

Saturday started slightly overcast but soon brightened up. Had breakfast out the front and the girls also ventured out. Then J and I did some varnishing of the front door, kitchen windows and top door as they get the most exposed to all the elements. I took the girls up to Super U to get lunch which we ate outside and the rest of the afternoon we all just chilled either reading, watching the cricket or playing.

In the evening we went to the Calabrese for pizzas which A had been dreaming of since yesterday. They were very good. Afterwards we walked up the top of Cluny and the girls got ice cream from La Louise and we wandered back to the car through the park. It was a very relaxing day.
