Brief stop over on the way back from the Loire

Published on by Tamsin Rouche

Agnès had spent the first week of the Feb school hols with Granny in Amboise. She had been very grown up and taken the train on her own (with the SNCF Junior et Companie service) from Bellegarde to Paris, where Granny collected her. On Saturday 14 Feb 2015 Jules and I set off, visiting Bourges on the way and staying the night in Vierzon before reaching Granny's at 11h00 on Sunday. It was lovely to see Granny's new house and we visited lots of the chateaux (Chenonceau, Villandry, Chinon and Chaumot) and there are so many more to see. We spent a lovely week together and I felt that I had really had a break away from the normal grind.

We left Granny on Saturday 21 Feb just after breakfast and the journey back to St. André took exactly 4 hours. We immediately saw that M. Marsovique had finished installing the spot lights in the kitchen. He had also put in the sensor light in the wood storage so that when we go out at night to fetch firewood the light comes on automatically. He had also put up the small light on the side of the chaufferie overlooking the garden.

We were surprised to have received a letter addressed to us in Logras but delivered to St. André - it wasn't anything important but it was a bit bizarre.

Jules got the fire going and once the boiler was switched up we started to get cozy. Granny had given us a sideboard that she had no room for and which we have admired for a while. It is 60s style and we managed to get it into the car. For the moment it is in the old kitchen until we decide where to put it for good.

The butcher's van came just before 16h and Agnès and I got some pork chops and some sausages. I love that we get a butcher stopping right outside the house - really local shopping.

We left just after breakfast on Sunday (much against my volonté) but we have to get ready for school and work again. It was so nice to be back in St. André and I am so looking forward to the spring and warmer weather and spending more time there.
