Randonée du Désert 2024

We set off at precisely 09h36 on Saturday 20 April with A’s friend N with us. After a really hot week last weekend it has gone very cold down to 1° some mornings and barely 10° in the afternoons. We made good progress and reached the house in the usual time. J got a fire going and I put on the boiler. The girls settled in. There were some nice blooms in the garden and the wisteria over the road is looking beautiful. After lunch we all went out for walks, the girls down to the playground and J and I in the other direction. We already saw the markers for the walks on Sunday which are 7, 12, 16, 20 and 24km. We will also the 7km. Luckily although there has been rain the forecast is dry and bright albeit it cold. I went off to SuperU with the girls to get provisions for the walk for them. Then in the evening we went to Cluny and had pizza at La Petite Auberge. We haven’t been there for years, the pizzas as thin which is nice and enjoyed them.

I am writing this on Sunday morning in bed while everyone asleep and I have just heard a cuckoo.

On Sunday morning I went over to the baker and there were already loads of cars and walkers setting off even though it was just after 8h. We all fuelled up on pastries and then went to the salle communale to register. We set off at 09h45 and walked a nice brisk but not too fast pace through the Paquier then Chateau Gaillard and finally Le Marchiseul. We did not see many people so I assume others were doing a long walk. When we arrived back at the salle we had crepes and a cake and some juice. It was a nice walk and although coldish it was dry until a few drops just as we walked back to the house. We packed up and set off around midday.
