Agnès departs

We left home on Friday 10 July after work as on Saturday will leave for Granny’s from Macon. The Geneva train was cancelled but we are just glad that the trains are running and actually the trip from Macon to Paris is only 1hour 45mins. Agnès has been asking if we could stop at the diner in Macon and we arrived around 19h45. We all had burgers and A had a milkshake. The food was so so but A enjoyed it.

We then stopped in Cluny to walk off the burgers and arrived at the house around 20h45. We were only here 5 days ago but it was nice to be back.

On Saturday we had to get A to Macon for the 10h30 train so we got up earlyish and after a trip to the baker so she could make up her cheese and ham croissant for the train we left the house just after 09h30. We were of course in plenty of time. The guard said there were 4 kids getting on in Macon and another 4 already on the train from Lyon. We waited on the platform and the train pulled in on time and we waved her off. It is only an hour and 45 mins to Paris on the train.

J and I then drove into Macon and parked near the quai and walked through the market which was very lively and very cheap compared to Ferney. We picked up some melons and peppers and flat peaches probably at least half to a third cheaper than what we normally pay. We then wandered around the pedestrianised streets and the weather was hot and sunny.

We the stopped at La Pain Sur la Table for lunch- the outside was already fully booked so we sat inside. J had beef stew and ai had mackerel with tapenade. For dessert I had the usual and always amazing chocolate cake and J had mixed fruit crumble. We then went back to the house for a siesta and some gentle gardening. The grapes are coming on well and it seems to be a bumper crop. The back garden is looking a bit overgrown so I am checking with the gardener that he is still coming.

On Sunday we had a lie in and I went to get breakfast from the baker which we enjoyed out the front. Then we went for a walk up via the Mairie and saw some interesting birds - shrikes. Everywhere is bone dry and it hasn’t rained for a long time. We then packed up and left around 11h30. We should be back again on our own in a few weeks when A is with Grandma and Grampa.
